Co-op games with a 'more players' mod

Your friend group outgrew the lobby. These games have community mods that fit everyone.

A lot of the best co-op games ship with a lobby cap that feels one or two seats too small. Four is great for Lethal Company until your voice channel has seven people in it. The community fix is nearly universal: a "more players" mod that raises the cap, and in most cases it is the single most-downloaded mod for the game. This guide covers which games have a solid one, how big they go, and the one rule that keeps a modded lobby from falling apart.

The one rule of modded lobbies

Before the list, internalize this, because it is the thing that breaks 90% of modded sessions: every single player must run the exact same mods at the exact same versions. Cap mods change how the game handles the lobby, and if one person is on a different version, they either cannot join or the whole session desyncs mid-run.

The clean way to enforce it: use a mod manager like r2modman, build your profile, export it as a code, and have everyone import that identical code. The follow-along steps above walk through it. Do this once and a modded lobby is as stable as vanilla.

Lethal Company: 4 to 32

Lethal Company has the gold-standard example. The MoreCompany mod raises the cap from four to a wild 32 and throws in cosmetics. It is verified, actively maintained, and the canonical pick. You can dial the number down in the config if 32 scavengers is more chaos than your group can survive โ€” six or eight is a popular sweet spot. This is the best-supported cap mod on the whole list.

Content Warning: 4 to 10

Content Warning has MorePlayers, which lifts the camcorder-horror cap from four to ten. Ten people trying to film the same monster for views is a meaningfully different, dumber, better experience than the tight vanilla four. It is verified and installs the same way as MoreCompany.

R.E.P.O.: 6 to 16

R.E.P.O. already starts at a generous six, and a community cap mod pushes it toward 16. Because R.E.P.O. is built on fragile physics hauling, a bigger lobby means more hands fumbling the same valuable and more spectacular group failures. The available mods are less consolidated than Lethal Company's, so check Thunderstore for the actively maintained variant before committing your group to one.

Far Far West: 4 to 16

Far Far West, the weird-western co-op shooter, has a Bigger Lobbies mod that quadruples the session cap from four to 16. Worth a specific warning: it modifies the multiplayer blueprint and invite list, so every player absolutely needs the mod installed โ€” blueprint changes desync the game otherwise. This is exactly the scenario the "one rule" above exists for.

Gamble With Your Friends: 6 to 12

Gamble With Your Friends has the Twelve Player Expansion, which doubles the casino-crawler cap from six to twelve and rebalances the shared economy for the larger group. More friends means more people to blame when the loan shark's quota goes unmet, which is the entire point of the game.

Quick reference

The caps at a glance, so you can match a mod to your headcount:

  • Lethal Company โ€” MoreCompany, 4 to 32
  • Content Warning โ€” MorePlayers, 4 to 10
  • R.E.P.O. โ€” community MorePlayers, 6 to 16
  • Far Far West โ€” Bigger Lobbies, 4 to 16
  • Gamble With Your Friends โ€” Twelve Player Expansion, 6 to 12

Things to check before you trust a cap mod

Not every cap mod is equal. A short due-diligence list:

  • Version match. A mod built for last patch can silently break on the current one. Read the mod's version notes.
  • Verified vs. community-maintained. The Lethal Company and Content Warning mods are well-established. Some others are best-effort forks โ€” confirm the download is current before your whole group installs it.
  • Performance ceiling. Raising the cap does not raise the game's optimization. Some games (and some hosts' connections) chug well before the modded maximum. Test with the real group size.
  • Everyone installs, no exceptions. Repeating it because it is the whole ballgame: one un-modded player breaks the lobby.

Get the profile code shared and synced, and any of these games opens up to fit your actual friend group instead of an arbitrary number.
