How to play Lethal Company with 10+ friends

The four-player cap is a lie. Here is how to get your whole Discord onto the same moon.

Lethal Company ships with a hard four-player cap, and for a lot of groups that is exactly one problem: your friend stack is six, or nine, or the entire voice channel wants in. The good news is that the single most popular Lethal Company mod exists precisely to fix this, and getting everyone onto the same derelict moon takes about ten minutes of setup.

This is a walkthrough for raising the cap, keeping everyone in sync, and actually surviving with a crowd instead of a squad.

Why four is the default (and why breaking it works anyway)

Vanilla Lethal Company is balanced around four scavengers: one quota, one ship, one terminal operator barking directions while three drones get eaten in the fog. It is tight, and it is genuinely great at four.

But the game engine has no deep attachment to that number. The lobby cap is a setting, not a law of physics, which is why MoreCompany โ€” the canonical player-cap mod โ€” can lift it all the way to 32. The moons do not get bigger, the monsters do not get smarter, and that is the entire joke. Ten people crammed into one facility is a different game: louder, dumber, funnier, and considerably more likely to end in a single catastrophic wipe.

What you need before you start

Everyone who wants to play modded has to run the same mods. This is the one rule that trips groups up, so front-load it:

  • A mod manager. r2modman or the Thunderstore desktop app both work and both handle dependencies for you.
  • BepInExPack, the mod loader nearly every Lethal Company mod depends on.
  • MoreCompany, which does the actual cap-raising and adds cosmetics.
  • Optionally LethalConfig, an in-game menu for tuning mod settings without editing files by hand.

The follow-along install steps are in the checklist above. The rest of this guide assumes it worked and now you have eight-to-twelve people who need to not die immediately.

Keeping a big lobby in sync

The number one cause of "it won't let me join" is a mod mismatch. If the host has MoreCompany v1.8 and someone else has v1.7, the lobby will reject them or desync mid-run.

Fix it once and never think about it again:

  • In r2modman, use Export profile as code. It produces a short string.
  • Drop that string in the group chat.
  • Everyone else picks Import profile from code and installs the exact same set.

Now your whole crew is running byte-identical mod lists. When you update, re-export and re-share. Ten seconds of discipline saves a half-hour of "wait, try again."

One more sync note: always launch from the mod manager, not from Steam directly. Launching from Steam boots vanilla, and vanilla cannot see the modded lobby.

How ten people actually play

A crowd changes the strategy completely. Some hard-won group wisdom:

  • Assign a ship operator. With ten people the terminal is more valuable than ever โ€” one person on doors, turrets, and the radar map can save four lives at once. Rotate the job so nobody is stuck babysitting.
  • Split into cells, not a swarm. Ten scavengers moving as one blob trip each other, block doorways, and all die to the same Coilhead. Break into pairs or trios with separate loot routes.
  • Proximity voice is the whole point. Do not pile everyone into one Discord channel โ€” Lethal Company's in-game proximity chat is what makes a big lobby sing. You genuinely lose people in the dark and hear them scream from two rooms over.
  • Overload the quota early. More hands means more scrap per trip, so push deeper faster in the first few days while the group is fresh and the monster roster is thin.

If MoreCompany feels like too much

Not every group wants 32. A couple of alternatives:

  • Dial MoreCompany's cap down to six or eight in the config. Big enough to feel chaotic, small enough that a facility still fits everyone.
  • Play the numbers game with a second lobby. Two coordinated four-player teams racing the same quota is its own kind of fun and needs zero mods.

When you have wrung Lethal Company dry

Once your group is hooked on proximity-voice horror, the natural next steps share the same DNA:

  • Content Warning โ€” film monsters for views instead of hauling scrap. Its own MorePlayers mod raises the cap to 10.
  • R.E.P.O. โ€” six-player physics hauling where every piece of loot is a fragile negotiation, with a community cap mod pushing it to 16.

Both scratch the same itch: a fragile crew, a dark building, and a voice channel that will not stop screaming. But Lethal Company modded to a full lobby is still the purest version of the bit. Get everyone on the same profile code and drop onto the moon.
